It’s exciting to watch crops coming to maturity after days, weeks and even months of planting and nurturing. The cantaloupes are just starting to come on.
My mouth is watering for cold fresh cantaloupe, yet I have not been able to get one ripened melon in time to eat. Something else has been eating them right before they are truly ready.

Today I said “That’s IT!” I’m going to weed around these melons and put mouse traps next to each melon and “That’ll fix’em.”
Well, while I was weeding I found the culprits calling card. Can you believe he is not only rude enough to steal my melons, but let’s me know he is doing so!

Do you know which animal this “bathroom duty” belongs to?
P.S. Just a couple more weeks of the CSA program, and I will quit being so rude as to not updating this website on a regular basis with all things good from the farm.

I didn’t hire these two! They just showed up in the garden and decided to homestead.

First, there’s Sam he’s been hanging around for a couple of months. He’s one Kool Kat and spends his days next to the cooler. What a job!

Now Sam’s partner, she showed up this past week. A job and a name for her have yet to be determined The only thing certain, she is one “hot dog” in this Texas heat.

A few more critters and I’ll be right up there with Ellie May Clampett.

The last two weeks have been all about getting a farm stand built and going; it was officially finished this week. Thank you Bob & Jimmy! It’s nice to have a shady spot that isn’t knee deep in grass under a tree.

Next week we will be unofficially open. Yes you read correctly, officially this structure is a tool shed. Okay, let me back up…
The land where I crop is leased from a very large corporation. Not state large, not U.S.A. large, WORLD large, so care to guess who has the final say? Forget what the lease says.
Last Saturday (Memorial Weekend) a call was received instructing me to remove the banner below from the fence. “They” did not want any advertising on the fence; never mind that we built & paid for the fence.

At the time, half of the structure was complete and “they” said nothing about the structure but instinct tells me to run this stand covert. “I learned a long time ago, it is easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission.” So I may have strange hours for selling, or ask you to leave as quickly as possible not to draw attention, or have to be closed on a day I am suppose to be open, etc.
Dang it! I have always wanted a farm stand and I’m going to do my best at keeping this hush, hush while selling veggies for myself and other farmers in the area. I hope if you are in our neck of the woods you will come see us. We are located at the corner of Koalstad and Texaco Rd. You can use our contact page and I would be happy to send you a map. The only thing left to determine is the hours of operation, any suggestions?
